A Worship & Healing Experience
MANCHESTER CATHEDRAL
Friday 22nd October &
Saturday 23rd October 2004
CONSTANTLY TIRED?.....RUSHED OFF YOUR FEET?.......NEED SOME PEACE?..........
In this rush, rush world, come and enjoy this exciting 2 day event exploring ancient, as well as fresh approaches to worship, healing and prayer.
Feel free to wander around the ancient place of Manchester Cathedral where many have journeyed with heavy loads and have left knowing that they have encountered God and found healing and peace.
What is Resonance
During the last couple of years, a group of people have been working together to construct a fascinating worship, healing and renewal experience that will take place in Manchester Cathedral in October. The project was born through a shared concern to see worship and ministry being offered to those who find themselves distanced from usual forms of church culture.
One of the purposes of Resonance is to offer an alternative approach to what seems to have become the norm in renewal circles. Rather than creating worship that tackles life head on we are aiming to create an environment where God can make connections in us between the story of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ and the life stories of our society, communities and worshippers. We are seeking resonance rather than relevance.
Resonance is when two different objects-events-stories vibrate with the same frequency. We are seeking to allow the gospel story to resonate with a community and personal story, and allow God to make the connections in the hearts of participants.
How Will it Work
All around the Cathedral there will be areas, which we have called zones, for you to explore at your own pace a ‘market place’ of ideas, symbols and zones where you can come and go as you please. There are many zones to choose from listening to wild, wacky and profound stories told by the renowned Bob Hartman; healing prayer & anointing with oil; visual prayer using art materials to relaxing with a cup of coffee & reading the papers and then expressing what you would say to Tony Blair or Kofi Annan about the world situation in the World Zone.
Every half hour there will be moments of stillness & reflection with a prayer & reading. The accomplished Wellspring musicians will also be playing to soothe our troubled spirits and provide a worship and healing opportunity for those who are searching in their hearts for God.
There will be three main worship times throughout the two days and we are hoping that the Service on Friday evening at 8.30pm will be dark enough to be fully candle lit! The Cathedral Choir will be joining us for Evensong on Saturday at 3.30pm during which there will be an inaugural performance of ‘Gloria’ based on the ancient Christian Creed of Faith, written by Sally Thornton from Wellspring, for choir and orchestra.
Bishop of Manchester - Nigel McCullough said
‘The renewal of our lives through worship is at the heart of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Resonance is an exciting venture using the best of music, healing and prayer. I am delighted that their first cathedral worship event is in our Cathedral in Manchester, and encourage as many as possible to support it."
Dean of Manchester Cathedral, Ken Riley said
'One of the great things about cathedrals is that they have the freedom to be the laboratories and workshops of the creative Spirit of God, in which there is space for new ways of worship and prayer, bringing God's healing touch to the lives of many. I am delighted that Resonance has chosen to come to Manchester Cathedral for this imaginative project. May God bless it and may it be the first of many!'
